GRIGORASHEN (HOLY TRINITY) CHURCH OF ARAGATSAVAN

Grigorashen (Holy Trinity) Church of Aragatsavan is one of the most unique early medieval, early Christian churches. This unique church was built in the 6th-7th centuries, on a rock on the left bank of the Akhuryan River. It is a domed, six-altar church built of yellow-red tuff. The church is called Grigorashen after the architect Grigory, it is consecrated as the Holy Trinity. Aragatsavan church is called because it is located not far from Aragatsavan village of Aragatsotn province of Armenia. The church is near the Armenian-Turkish border, in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, but due to being in the border zone, it is closed for visits without special permission.
