CHAKHALABERD, JILIZA, MADAN (MODERATE HIKING)

During our amazing visit, we will not only reach Chakhalaberd Fortress with a wonderful forest walk, but also enjoy unique Jiliza and Madan villages with their colorful and beautiful scenery. We will enjoy the virgin forests of northern Lori, where even deer may cross our path. We will visit the very beautiful and unique Madan village, once inhabited by Greeks, then we will reach the Jiliza village through the slopes of Lalvar. Here we will see the ruins of the ancient church of Jiliza, after which we will walk to Chakhalaberd (or Bazaberd of medieval Gugark) in the forests, which is one of the most well-preserved and impressive Armenian fortresses. Since Jiliza is right on the Armenian-Georgian border, a special permit is required for this trip, which implies pre-registration for this trip.

Hike distance is 4 km (round trip). You must have hiking shoes and hiking clothes.
